Greater burdock (Arctium lappa, fr. Gouteron, Ger. Grobe Klette, it. Bardana, sp. Bardano) – a species of plant from the Asteraceae family.
Burdock has strong antibacterial, fungicidal and anti-inflammatory properties. It also works diuretic and diaphoretic. It reduces the secretion of gastric juice, however, it increases the secretion of mucus in the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, burdock root is used internally in the treatment of gastrointestinal catarrh, in inflammation of the urinary tract and gall bladder, in liver failure, metabolic disorders. It also has a positive effect on the skin. Externally it is used to treat boils, acne, pruritus and dandruff. It also prevents hair loss and dandruff. For these purposes, it is best to make macerate burdock root, decoction or juice from the burdock root. Macerate can be obtained with a mixer or grater, the juice can be obtained from the macerate by squeezing it through a sieve or using a juicer. A macerate or a cloth saturated with burdock juice covers the appropriate places on the skin.
